News Release of Nov. 30, 2023 -- CARRBORO, NC -- On Wednesday, Nov. 29, at approximately 9 a.m., an email was sent that made a threat regarding an explosive device at Carrboro High School at 201 Rock Haven Road. The police department worked with Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) personnel and our public safety partners to evaluate the threat, and no suspicious items were located.
As a result of the investigation, a juvenile suspect was identified. The suspect is a Carrboro High School student and has been charged with making a false report concerning destructive device, a Class H Felony. A juvenile petition has been completed and submitted to Juvenile Justice. Because the suspect is under the age of 18, no additional information will be released.

An email threat was received just after 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, that made specific threats against Carrboro High School. The police department worked with Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) personnel and our public safety partners to evaluate the threat, formulate a plan to keep students and staff safe, and investigate the incident. The school was checked, and no suspicious items were located.
