Damon Seils is the mayor of Carrboro. As mayor, he presides over meetings of the Town Council and represents the Town at ceremonies and events. During his time on the Council, he has championed local and regional public transportation, improvements in pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and comprehensive, inclusive urban planning to promote housing and accessibility for all.
Mayor Seils represents Carrboro on the board of the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization Board (for which he previously served as chair), the Chapel Hill Transit Partners Committee, the Chatham-Orange Workgroup, the Orange County Solid Waste Advisory Group, and the Orange County Visitors Bureau Board of Directors. Mayor Seils is the Council's liaison to the Town's Board of Adjustment, Community Safety Task Force, Greenways Commission, Transportation Advisory Board, and Youth Advisory Board. He is also a member of the North Carolina Metropolitan Mayors Coalition.
Mayor Seils recently served on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Strategic Plan 2027 Steering Committee, the Orange County 2022-2027 Master Aging Plan Steering Committee, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Vehicle Miles Traveled Reduction Working Group as part of the North Carolina Clean Transportation Plan.
In his professional life, Mayor Seils works in the medical school at Duke University, where he is a communications specialist focusing on the work of health services researchers who study the quality, costs, and ethics of health care delivery. Mayor Seils was also a longtime leader in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community at Duke, where he worked with students, employees, alumni/ae, and administrators to promote equity and inclusion for gender and sexual minority communities on campus and in the healthcare system. A native of Texas, Mayor Seils grew up in Austin. He attended college and graduate school in Washington, DC, before moving to Carrboro.
