2021 Performer Application

At this time, a lot still remains unknown regarding potential issues related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  This includes potential restrictions on gatherings that may be in place at the time of the event, as well as unknowns surrounding potential venue access.  We are currently accepting applications and proceeding with event planning, but modifications (ex. reduced number of performances, limited crowd sizes, limited availability of venues, virtual streaming options, etc.) may be necessary.

The 2021 Carrboro Music Festival is scheduled to be held on Sunday, September 26th with kickoff events on Saturday, September 25th. This year marks the 24th Anniversary of the Festival.

Established in 1998, the Festival was originally held on June 21st as an official affiliate of the Fête de la Musique, which is also known as 'Make Music Day'.  The purpose of the event is to make all genres of music more accessible to the public through free concerts where all performers donate their time.  As the Carrboro Music Festival was eventually moved to a cooler Fall date, the official relationship with 'Make Music Day' ended, but the purpose remains the same.

More recently, the Carrboro Music Festival has been an effort to host a free two-day event that showcases Triangle-area performers and the varied musical styles they represent. All of the performers are volunteers who donate their talents to foster a strong sense of community and to share their varying genres and their collective love of music with a wider audience.

Application Process
All performers must submit an official application to be considered for the event each year.

Attempts are made to strike a balance between our returning festival performers and first-timers. Please be aware that previous participation does not guarantee you a spot. We cannot accommodate everyone who applies to play.

Applications received after the deadline will be placed on a waiting list. Digital audio files or online samples are required from anyone who has not previously played the Carrboro Music Festival. Musicians are encouraged to bring merchandise to their performance and to solicit gratuities, however they are completely responsible for their sales.

A large percentage of the venues, both indoor and outdoor, have sound systems and sound technicians. The exceptions are a handful of small venues (with solo or duo performers) where the musicians run their own sound, either with their own sound systems or with those provided by the Festival.

Applicants who are selected will be contacted by late August or early September when scheduling is typically finalized. Please be aware that spots in this year’s event may be more limited than in previous years due to potential issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please note that the application period has now closed.  Thank you to everyone who applied.  Applications are being reviewed while we determine how many acts we can accommodate for this year's event.  Selections are typically made by mid-August to early September.
